I think there&#039;s a graph in all this, based on the fickle factor. :-)

When a new application is created - for example, Spotify - this is where a service is most vulnerable as it tries to get critical mass.

Once it&#039;s got it - see Facebook - then its relatively safe. Being a social network application, the reason for using it largely based on all your mates/colleagues using it. Most people are too lazy to switch.

...until something better comes along and the early adopters switch - see Friends Reunited. It&#039;s classic crowd dynamics. The question is whether Twitter&#039;s got enough momentum to keep growing...?</description>

It&#039;s like watching Friendster or MySpace get started. You can just tell it is going to be &#039;that big&#039; but you can&#039;t tell which one Twitter will be...
