Caine’s Arcade from Nirvan Mullick on Vimeo.
It’s a film about what happened when a nine year old boy decided to build an arcade made of cardboard in his dad’s garage. One day he got a paying customer who was so taken with the boy’s imagination that he offered to make a film about it to help him get more customers. The film became a surprise flash mob for Caine and an internet sensation.
It’s a great story and apart from clocking up an impressive 1.9 million views on Vimeo and 1.3 million views on YouTube, it has also generated a $100,000 college fund for Caine.
OK, a cynic would say it’s successful because it’s about a cute kid (I’m reminded of the story of Charlie Simpson who raised £70,000 for the Haiti disaster a couple of years ago and became a national hero), but it works for me because it’s natural and ticks the human interest box. Plus the video is shot in a lovely way.
