I can’t be the only person who sends a tweet out and thinks, ooh, maybe I should put it up on Google+ too. Which is, of course, pretty pointless. And it’s a shame, in a way, because when I do go on Google+, I find that the content is often better (or, at least, there’s less guff than there is on Twitter).
So, next week, starting at midnight on Sunday, I’m going to have a Twitter-free week and see whether a Google+ is a richer experience. Certainly one of the reasons people use Twitter over Google+ is that it’s a bigger community, so I need some people to join in – who’s up for it?
And since it’s traditional to have anything Twitter related promoted through a bird motif or prefixed with a “Tw”, I’m not going to disappointed – because, next week I’m going Cold Twerky! (sorry)
So, let me know if you’re interested by either following me on Google+, Tweeting #coldtwerky or leaving a comment on this post. Oh and feel free to put the Cold Twerky logo on your blog if you want to join in.
Google+

It’s an interesting idea Phil, but I have a challenge. I use my varying social media profiles for different purposes and I have yet to find a place for Google + warrants me spending the time on it.
I don’t doubt this will change, but at present Twitter remains my most used an useful social media platform. I don’t want to end up following the same people on a different platform, which is what I suspect is exactly what I’d do in this instance on the hunt for trusted sources of information!
So, the question for me is not either or, more what role does or could aparticular platform play in my personal or professional life. For that reason, I want to find time to investigate how I can use it as an additional resource rather than an alternative.
Goood luck with the experiment, though. I’m sure you’re going to find it very useful :)
Thanks for the comment Dan and yes, I’ve had a lot of the same thoughts assessing Google+ and, to me, it’s most likely to take Twitter space (as opposed to replacing brain time for Facebook, blogging etc.) Functionality wise, I think Google+ comes out in front, but there are more people on Twitter and it has become a habit.
I think even for people that are big social media users, there’s only room to use about 4 social networks properly (hence why I really can’t be bothered with Pinterest), so it boils down to being a choice at the moment – but we’ll see how I feel at the end of next week.

Good luck – I’m only coping with 3 social networks (and finding it hard), so I’m interested to see how you get on with the 4th one I’ve been contemplating!
Thanks VP. Yes, I agree that most people have only got so much brain space for social networks. OK, if you spent literally all day on them, you could cope with loads, but even then there’s the temptation to do a lot of re-post.
To me a lot of it’s about audiences. The things I’d say and the way I’d say them are different on Facebook as, say, Twitter. Theoretically G+ works across all of them, but I’ll find out in the next few days whether it actually works that way or not.

I came back to this post after reading your scorecard one.
Good point re audiences – I’ve been musing on exactly the same thing the past few days. And you have to really know what you want to say and use each social media platform according what it can deliver to that audience/message mix.
I’m a real re-post hater, but that’s because I’m following a number of people on both Facebook and Twitter and seeing exactly the same thing on both platforms makes those people look less ‘social’ and more ‘using’ the media. I begin to trust their messages less. Of course if the bulk of your audience aren’t following you across the platforms, then that isn’t so much of an issue.
