I was in a new business meeting the other day and the prospect said, “I don’t see the point in corporate blogs, they’re a complete waste of time. It’s just an ego exercise with a load of self-publicising puff and nobody reads them.” Well, I believe that nine times out of ten he has a point, but I do think there is a role for corporate blogs – if they’re done properly.
One I saw this morning caught my eye. It’s less of a “corporate” blog, but more specialising in photography, his particular area as a one-man business. Simon Ridgway is one of my new additions on Twitter (I’m assuming he found me after trawling through other PRs) and is a photographer from South Wales.
Simon uses his blog exactly the right way – to provide help around his area of expertise, photography. He provides helpful tips around things like “how to take the perfect headshot”, “what is DPI?” and “questions about copyright” – all ideal for the budding photographer and marketing/PR people who would be likely to commission him.
