Next weekend I’m going skiing. Which I’m very chuffed about. Apart from making sure I’ve got all the kit I need (this year featured the purchase of a snazzy new Giro helmet), it raises the question: what goes into the gadget sack?
- New Binatone walkie talkies (on order, thanks to some Christmas money) – OK, I’m only going away with my girlfriend, so perhaps not that necessary, but they’re really useful in a group environment
- Apple MacWarehouse – I’m tempted by the shiny new black and silver MacBooks, but my white one is doing my proud after 2.5 year’s use. It’ll be perfect for downloading ski pics each evening
- Canon EOS 450D – I don’t get to use my SLR anywhere near as much as I’d like. My IXUS is much more practical for days out, but it’s time it had an outing
- Altec Lansing speakers – they’ve stopped making the ones I’ve got now, but I’ve had them years and they still working a treat. Ideal for filling hotel rooms
- Apple 60GB 3G ipod – I’ve been thinking about buying a new orange Nano purely because my old Sennheiser earphones are finally giving up the ghost and these new orange ones will match lovely (I know, I so sound like a girl sometimes). No, stop, my old 60GB ipod is just fine
- Sony Ericsson Cybershot C902 – the one Bond uses, in black. Except I won’t be using it with O2’s European charging rates. And I ski more like Oddjob than James Bond
- Blackberry Curve – my PR work phone. Hopefully staying put in the kit bag
- …and a whole lot of chargers – and travel adapter – for this lot.
I’ve realised that this is quite a lot of kit for a “getting away from it all” ski holiday. Maybe I should cut back a bit…?

Erm, we are going skiing, right? Rather than sitting in a hotel room geeking all week…
I am leaving the Playstation at home… ;-)
