Seems that Microsoft has finally woken up to the popularity of Web 2.0 by launching a new blogging tool, Windows Live Writer. According to IT Pro, “The free download is available immediately, claiming to make it easier for bloggers to compose posts using Windows Live Spaces or non-Microsoft blog services such as Blogger, LiveJournal, TypePad and WordPress.”
I’ve not got round to looking at MS Spaces before. Functionality-wise, it looks quite good, allowing users to post pictures, write blogs and become part of an online community, but just doesn’t seem right somehow. Maybe it’s just my natural Microsoft aversion, but the whole thing just looks too Microsoft. It reminds me of a very uncool uncle trying to get down with the kids. Perhaps they’re pitching it at newbies or people that don’t trust sites like Myspace or Flickr. As for the new blogging tool, with Blogger, WordPress and co., do we really need another one?
