Septathlon challenge

Fresh from the Great North Run, I’ve been wondering what my next challenge should be. Starting as a complete running novice on Christmas Day last year, I’ve now completed four events this year: Reading Half Marathon, Derby10k, South Coast Triathlon and, best of all, the Great North Run. (I’m still staggered that I’ve found that I actually enjoy it.) But I do need something else, to stop falling back into slovenly, crisp and pie-eating ways.
So, my personal challenge is seven events to be completed before the Great North Run next September, which I’m calling a Septathlon. These will be a mixture of half marathons, orienteering events, triathlons and the odd 10K.
It starts next weekend with the Leicester Half Marathon (I’m signed up and number 1212).

Hastings run

So with a week to go to event number one, I thought I better get out and do some exercise, running around the coast near my parents’ place in Hastings. The six mile course took over an hour, but it was very hilly (honest). In fact, for the first time, I had to walk a couple of sections. The hills are making me re-evaluate my plan to run the Hastings Half Marathon next year (not that my second choice in Bath will be any easier).

[…] New beginnings It’s been a while since I wrote a post, but my life has been a bit up and down of late. I’ve moved house, joined a new gym and put my hand up for a number of events as part of the Septathlon Challenge. They include the Hastings Half Marathon, London-Brighton bike ride, British 10k, London Triathlon, Great North Run and Grim Challenge. I’ve already completed the Leicester Half (slowly) and a rather silly race that involved trying to catch a man dressed as a Christmas pudding…so after all these other ones, I can put my feet up and drink gin for the rest of the year.
